This months tip....
May 2016.....When painting with acrylics have both a wet rag and a dry rag handy. If you wipe your brush on the wet rag it
is actually easier to pick up a good load of paint and the paint won't dry out as fast. Use the dry rag when you are
rouging or using other techniques that call for a dry brush. I cut up some old t-shirts to use and they fit the bill
perfectly.
April..2016...TINT YOUR GESSO: When you are applying gesso to the surface before transferring your pattern, try mixing some of the paint in with the gesso. This saves time and is great for painting our paper mache memory boxes. Since gesso is
white it will make your background color lighter which might be preferred. If not, when thoroughly dry, do background
again with your color only.
March 2016...Do you know the difference between an EXTENDER and a RETARDER?: Would you believe the only difference is in
the name? Extend means to lengthen and retard means to slow down. Basically both just give you more time to work
with acrylic paint before it dries. For folks who are used to oil painting this makes it easier to adjust to acrylic drying
time.
